Schema Therapy

Jeffrey E. Young

“Try to respect the reasons your lifetrap developed in the first place. In your childhood, it was essential for your emotional survival.”

What is Schema Therapy?

Schema Therapy helps you understand and change long-standing patterns or themes in your life that may be continuing to cause you problems today. It’s works to identify negative beliefs you have had over years, some since childhood, and how they impact your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and interactions with others.

For example, if you often feel like you’re not good enough, or people abandon you, Schema Therapy can help you find where these feelings come from, and work to teach you a new way to respond and create a different outcome in your relationships. Helping you break free from old negative patterns which may have created emotional and relational issues in your life.

How Does It Work?

  1. Identifying Schemas: Recognising maladaptive schemas. These are the long-standing beliefs influencing how we view ourselves, others, and the world around us.

  2. Awareness: Through guided exploration and reflective exercises, you will gain awareness of what triggers your schemas and how they impact your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

  3. Change: Using a variety of techniques Schema Therapy helps you challenge and change these unhelpful beliefs. This process empowers you to develop healthier coping mechanisms and build more fulfilling relationships.

Who Can Benefit?

Schema Therapy is particularly effective for individuals struggling with:

  • Self-esteem issues

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Trauma and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Emotional dysregulation

  • Personality disorders

  • Chronic depression or anxiety

Why Choose Schema Therapy?

Schema Therapy focuses on the root causes of emotional distress rather than just the symptoms. Schema therapy is a great choice for anyone who feels stuck and believes they are repeating negative patterns throughout their life. It goes deeper to work to heal you from the inside out, helping you understand deep-rooted issues and teaching you how to change them. By working through your past, you can break free from old patterns and learn healthier ways to cope, leading to a happier and more fulfilling life.
